At GreenScapes we believe in sustainable design, and choose our materials with care to minimise the ecological footprint.

The production of cement accounts for around 10% of the world's carbon emissions, so for hard landscaping projects we promote the use of alternative materials, such as recycled aggregates, rammed earth, dry stone walling, and lime mortar. We do not advocate the use of cheap stone imports, such as Indian sandstone, because it carries a high price tag in terms of transport and pollution, and often involves the exploitation of child labour.

The basic principle of sustainability is that humans should live as part of Nature, rather than separate from it. Biodiversity is therefore a priority, and we encourage the use of indigenous plants, and natural methods of pest and disease control, to create wildlife-friendly environments. We also specialise in the design of rainwater management systems and gardens with low water use.
